Computer displays
In the digital projector, the hues of each movie frame are broken into primary RGB colors, each of which is reflected by mirrors on its own digital micromirror device. Color-splitting prisms channel the RGB components of the high-intensity light source onto the arrays, and the modulated light is beamed through the projection lens onto the screen.
Optical mouse
Using an integrated micro-optical system with lenses and prisms, the LED in the mouse illuminates the surface (e.g. the desk) under the mouse. The CCD chip captures the pattern of surface time to time and calculates the motion vector, according to the change in captured image. Then, motion data is sent to the PC.
Inkjet printhead
The ink comes into the cavity from microchannels. The heating resistor generates small bubbles from the liquid, and vaporize it. The vaporized part of the ink is propelled towards the paper in a tiny droplet, and the whole process is started again. Programming the hehating pattern of the several MEMS microjets, the print will be generated from small dots. In the piezoelectric driven heads, the small amounnt of ink is jetted by a shockwave generated by piezoelectric micropump. Source: http://www.imtek.de/
