For the third time a seminar took place in Prenet. Based on earlier experiences the Department of Electrotechnology of the Prague University of Technology under the leadership of Prof. Ryšánek organized the "8th International Spring Seminar on Electrotechnology", held from May 28th to 31st, 1985, with the main subject "Power Semiconductors - Hybrid Devices". 38 participants from 8 countries discussed the following topics:

• Thick film resistor design
• Thick film resistor noise
• Failure diagnostics of semiconductor devices
• Copper thick film paste
• Equipment for hybrid devices assembly

In the "conclusions" is was stated "that the given intentions in the fields of scientific knowledge exchange, improvement of teaching process and international cooperation as well were reached". In the proceedings of this seminar 32 contributions were published in English language, and in addition 14 out of these in a special booklet of the scientific journal "acta polytechnica" of Prague University of Technology, 1987, III, 1. In his editorial to the proceedings Prof. Ryšánek wrote:

"Several papers from the 8th International Spring Seminar on Electrotechnology are published here now. They will give to our readers the overall pictures of the thematic direction of the contributions, but they cannot, unfortunately, invoke the atmosphere of this meeting, arranged in a mountain chalet, set in deep forests away from all the noise of civilisation, giving the best conditions not only for scientific discussions, but also for the forming of personal contacts and friendships between the participants."

This is a wonderful formulation. It describes the atmosphere between the participants very well. In this way during the following years a team of professors and young scientists has been formed who took part in all seminars and who highly appreciated each other.
