The Head of the Department of Electrotechnology of the Prague University of Technology, Prof. Ryšánek, has organized the "2nd International Spring Seminar on Electrotechnology" from May 23rd to 26th, 1978, in Prenet, Bohemian Forest. There was a guest house of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in this wonderful and lonely region.

37 Participants, not only from universities and electronic industry but also from the Industrial Institute of Electronic in Warsaw and from the Pupin Institute Beograd, Yugoslavia, from 6 nations in summary came there and gave their latest results in education and research in 23 oral presentations about the subject "Electrotechnology and Reliability" including the following aspects:

• Relations between reliability and materials science
• Degradation processes and fatigue phenomena in electrotechnical materials
• Relations between reliability and production processes
• Reliability of structures and systems, redundancy and reserves
• Reliability of electrical and electronic components, devices and apparatus
• Measuring methods and standards of reliability, accelerated tests
• Reliability in practical use of products, maintenance system, statistics
• Reliability of products in relation to national economy, natural resources, deterioration of living conditions and the future prospects of mankind

The integration between reliability, measuring methods and the education of these topics was the subject of a round table discussion. Finally, part of the time was reserved for a nature and culture program, for sports and for the forming of personal contacts and friendships between the participants. During the seminar in Weißig and during all the following seminars we always have had such programs which more and more became a good tradition.
