ISSE 2000, Balatonfüred, Hungary
For the sixth time the Spring Seminar took place in Hungary in 2000. It was the unanimously decision of the International Steering Committee, in the "special year 2000" to express many thanks to Prof. Illyefalvi-Vitez for his work concerning the seminars and to ask him for the organization the ISSE .

From May 6th to 10th, 2000, more than hundred participants met in Hotel UNI, Balatonfüred, Hungary, during the "23rd International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology". The focus of this seminar was "Networking Electronics Packaging Education". In eight technical sessions were presented more than hundred papers. 107 contributions were published in the proceedings (496 pages). This seminar was supported by a number or sponsors too, including the National Science Foundation, USA, and the IEEE-CPMT Hungary-Romania Joint Chapter.

The major topics of this seminar were:
  • Networking electronics packaging education in Central Europe and world-wide
  • Application of advanced information technology tools in education, research and manufacturing
  • Research and development of materials, devices, components, circuit modules, and equipment
  • Electronic circuits and multichip modules: principles, design, construction, technology, reliability
  • Processing: vacuum deposition, lasering, lithography, chemical and electrochemical technologies
  • Sensors, optoelectronics, process control, quality assurance, production control
The professors and young scientists came from 22 universities. Therefore, it was a very creative atmosphere to discuss new methods and subjects of education across the borderlines and new possibilities for an international scientific cooperation. Prof. Illyefalvi-Vitez gave information about the "International Local Network of Electronics Packaging Education" with 10 universities, and other professors discussed about their experiences in this field.

In the "Minutes of the closing meeting of the Steering Committee" of ISSE´98 the intention was expressed to realize a good contact to Academic Conferences at PRC Georgia Tech and to involve a few people into the work of both conferences. Two years later, in 2000, this goal was reached.
