From May 31st to June 3rd, 1994, Prof. Sauer, Dresden University of Technology, organized the "17th International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology" in Weißig, Saxony Switzerland. 38 participants from 8 countries discussed about "Process Engineering of Electronics Technology" within the following topics:

• Simulation and Optimization of Manufacturing Processes
• Quality and Reliability Management in Electronics Technology
• Inspection of Soldering Process
• Application of Laser Processing

All these topics were discussed under the aspects of education too. In this year we saw that the former differences between the educational level of the different universities more and more have been equalized. In addition to the ISSE on June 1st in Dresden the annual "Symposium Electronics Technology" took place. All participants of ISSE joined this Industrial Symposium and it was also possible to visit the laboratories for research and education in electronics technology of Dresden University of Technology.

38 papers - including 9 contributions of the symposium - were printed in a booklet. In the "conclusions" the following agreement can be found: "The participants of the 17th ISSE state that such kind of seminars could contribute to the future mutual cooperation of the European countries".
