For the fourth time in the history of ISSE a seminar took place in Prenet, organized by Prof. Ryšánek: the "12th International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology" in May 1989 with the main subject "Thermal Problems in Electronics Technology". The following topics have been presented and discussed:

• Thermal management of SMT assemblies
• Semiconductor temperature sensors
• Peltier cooling Systems
• Thermal problems in hybrid integrated circuits
• Heat dissipation and simulation

19 contributions were published in the scientific journal "acta polytechnica" of the Prague University of Technology, number 8, III, 1989-2. More than 30 participants took part coming from Czechoslovakia, Hungary and GDR.

Starting with the 12th Seminar "Best Paper Awards" were granted. The first prizewinners have been: Zsolt Illyefalvi-Vitez from Hungary, Rudolf Becker from Germany and Gabor Harsanyi from Hungary.
